Luke 21:20-22
And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
Today's Thought: Let us labor while waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
April 1878. It was the predicted return of Christ to earth. Charles Russel sold his businesses and spent the money in funding various publications to promote the doctrine of Christ's return on April 1878. Many believed Russell and some of them wore white robes and stood on hillsides on the appointed day as they waited for the return of Christ. But they waited in vain. Russell was absolutely wrong on the date, but also the doctrine used as basis of his prediction.
The return of Christ is sure. But let us not spend our energies and resources in predicting when He will come. Rather, let us use our time and resources instead to fulfill the command of Jesus - to tell the story of salvation throughout the land. The plan of the God is not for us to know when His return will be, but it is for us to wise in waiting for His return. Let us be excitedly serving as we wait, and let us be excitedly waiting as we serve.
Let us be careful students of the Word of God. Let us use the Word of God according to the leading of the Spirit for us to grasp what is happening and what will happen next.
