Luke 24:49
Today's Thought: It is the through the Holy Spirit that we can do something for God.
There was a Welsh preacher who visited the church of Dr. A.J. Gordon. He asked for time alone before the service begins. As the time grew near and the preacher had not yet come out of the room, the maid was sent to see if he was all right. The maid hear the Welsh preacher pray: I will not go unless You go with me.
In reality, we can do something even without the Holy Spirit. However, the question is: Will these somethings accomplishes the glory of God? Will they please the Lord? Yes, there are things we can do without the help of the Holy Spirit, but they are void of the glory of God and the power thereof. It accomplishes the humanity of what we do, but it misses the point - to glorify God.
The disciples waited for the power of the Holy Spirit to come unto them before they began the ministry left to them by our Lord Jesus Christ. We must also ask for the continual filling of the Spirit of God to empower us and please the Lord.
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
