1 Timothy 6:12–14
Today's Thought: Living the eternal life God has given us.
While we do have the gift of eternal life, there are several people who do not live accordingly. Evangelist H.A. Ironside said: "Eternal life is the present portion of all believers. What does the Apostle mean, then, when he says, ‘Lay hold on eternal life’? It is an exhortation to make it a practical thing as we go through this scene. It is quite possible to trust in Christ and thus to have eternal life in the soul, and yet to drop down to a low spiritual level where one is not living in the reality of eternal life."
Living faith is a gift we received from the bank of God's amazing grace. And because we already have the gift of eternal life, we should live as such. We must be on our fighting stance against sin and fight a good fight of faith as Paul exhorted Timothy.
Salvation is a free gift that we received from the Lord, anot because of our own efforts and merits. But as a result of salvation, we must live as new creatures in Christ. We must be obedient to the all of our Father in heaven to His purpose and will. Our Christian service is here and now. It should not be something we put on hold and set aside for heaven. We must fight a good fight of faith now.
Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
