Luke 18:14
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Today's Thought: The result of self-exaltation and humility always differs greatly.
The instruction of Jesus Christ on humility provides a contrasting inevitable result of self-exaltation and humility. In this particular proclamation, Jesus Christ speaks of a parable warning against self-righteousness and admonishing humility. Jesus Christ speaks on the contrast between the repentant publican and the self-righteous religious.
It is important to note that when the self-righteous man prayed unto the Lord, he is not making a dialogue with Jesus, but he is just making a personal dialogue with himself. The Lord hears only those who are humble enough to accept their weaknesses in His presence. We are not better than others for only the Lord has the perfect understanding to discern our hearts.
We should measure ourselves in the eyes of the Lord and not in comparison with others. God sees the abomination in our hearts. When we come to God, let us be grateful that it is the blood of Jesus that washes away our sins. Let us embrace our nothingness to remind us to stay humble.
