2 Kings 19:6
And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say to your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the words which thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.
Today's Thought: Never fear what you hear, only fear the Lord's voice.
England had just steadied her hand during the Reformation when King Philip of Spain threatened to invade it and make it Catholic again. As the Spanish Armada approached the coast of England, Queen Elizabeth rode through all the squadrons of her army. She proclaimed:
I know I have the body of a weak, feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a King... and your valour in the field, we shall shortly have a famous victory over these enemies of my God, of my kingdom and of my people.
The naval strength of Spain was terrifying, but the Queen would not allow the horror of Bloody Mary to get her people. While acknowledging her weakness, she showed her courage amidst of this; and in the end, England won, the Armada was crushed.
There is no room for fear when we hear threatening, saddening, and defeating words. The Lord can only work through us if we keep our faith in Him and never allow fear to overwhelm us. The Lord has promised victory and strength to us if we will only trust. It is the best time to cling to the strength of the Lord for He is the formidable fortress that never crumbles.
Fear is normal to all men. But we should never allow fear to cripple us. There is always faith that enables us. Draw near to the Lord and He will sustain you.
