Serving God Goes Beyond Your Offerings - August 3, 2017

Micah 6:6
Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

Today's Thought: Service to the Lord comes from the heart, not from what you can bring.

Part of the mass celebration was the offertory. Back when I was still in high school, when there was a mass celebration, selected students could prepare flowers, wine, fruits, and other offerings. They would line up at the center aisle and give their offerings. It was a complete spectacle reflective on how people tried to please the Lord. But it lacked the substance when it focused on form. Sometimes, when those who bought these offerings would ask others to give them.

The Lord is not a God of form, but of substance. He is not a God who only sees, but He is a God who knows. He is not pleased by physical appearance. Real service to the Lord comes from the heart - in being just, in love, in mercy and in humility. This is the meaning of serving God, not in the offerings that could be brought before Him.

Let us be aware to please God truthfully for us not to waste our effort and time. God hates those who are offering something to Him, but are not true to what God asks. Let us not deceive God for He is impossible to be deceived. Let us serve Him in spirit and in truth.
