Luke 20:25
Today's Thought: Always give the Lord the first priority in your life.
One of the boldest preachers was Samuel Davies. Prior to the Revolutionary War, Davies went to England and preached before King George III. During the message, the king talked to his wife about what Davies preached. Davies stopped the message and looked at the king and said: When the lion roars, the beasts of the forest tremble; when Jehovah speaks, let the kings of the earth keep silence before him. The king stopped talking and started listening.
Jesus is teaching us in the scripture that we must give to the government what it deserves, but we should give God the honor and glory He deserves. This text does not talk about the clash of government and religion, but on the proper respect and priority we should give to the Lord.
In our lives, we should always be reminded that the Lord is first whatever our state is. Even King George should stop talking when the message is preached. When the Lord speaks, even if others don't approve it, we should listen to the Lord and stop the world.
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar’s, and unto God the things which be God’s.
