Psalm 77:1
Today's Thought: When things seem hard, just trust the one who knows the road.
C.S. Lewis wrote a very telling illustration on how God uses adversity in our lives. Adversity is like a dog with a leash wrapped in a pole but continues to run forward. Both the dog and the owner have the same goal - forward. But the owner does not want the dog to move forward the wrong way. The owner takes action opposite to the will of the dog. This is how the Lord works in us during adversity.
It is in the time of sorrow that the psalmist tells us of hope in prayer. The passage suggests to be written during the Babylonian captivity with the declaration that God seems to have withdrawn His hand. The response of the psalmist is to stop resisting the will of God, but to allow God to move forward even it is hard.
Prayer is about surrender. It is surrendering to the will of God and cooperate with that will. It is pulling myself to God closer and aligning my will to the will of God, even at times of adversity.
I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.
